Might as well face it! I’m addicted to shallow DOF.
I know you guys tell me to try an aperture beyond 2.8 and I honestly try! I just can’t shake that feeling I get when I see the world beyond my subject become a smooth blur and I suddenly become weak at the knees and press the shutter button! I’ve got something coming up in the next few weeks that will feature more then 2 inches of focus! I promise!
I have to make a confession – DoF Addiction.
I must admit it, I am addicted to shallow depth of field. There is something about isolating something from the rest of the busy world around it to make it seem truly unique and beautiful that just melts my brain. My fascination started with my 50mm f/1.8 when I took a few photos of my coworkers in the warehouse of the store where we worked with an almost wide open aperture and then realized I could use this in more applications then just portraits and so started my addiction. It’s one of those things that could get old fast and I’m sure someone down the road is going to tell me that I will get harry palms from it or might even go blind but I just can’t help it. Perhaps I should check myself into Bokeh Addicts Anonymous…. maybe after a few more shots…
This is where it started:
